Notebooks

Notebooks is one of those items I love looking at. I usually carry my faithful reporter moleskine. Yesterday I saw a mention of the gorgeous About:Blank notebook, and I though to share with you some nice alternatives to the moleskine:

If you still haven’t found your perfect notebook, your can always make your own.

Software Project Survival Guide was written by Steve McConnell, author of the famous Code Complete. The book’s goal is to present a software development process heavily tested by the author.

The process itself stands between waterfall and Scrum, more like RUP. But its value comes from the display of every relevant aspect of successful software projects. It covers topics like Risk Management, Stage planning and System Testing, always ending chapters with a survival checklist.

Full with best pratices and with the engaging writing of Steve McConnell, its a very direct and useful book for starting-up project managers.

I have three general problems that keep me from doing more online donations or supportive buying:

  • Expensive international shipping rates, to which I end up paying more than for the article itself (very common for stuff like vinyl singles)
  • All the hassle of making multiple payments (figuring out the payment process, making a virtual credit card, filling in the forms…)
  • Deciding how much too give in any specific occasion, considering my current earning/spending

Flattr is a service that addresses the last two problems, with a simple process. Whenever you see content you enjoy or a project you would like to support, you click on their flattr button. When you have some money to give away, you just have to give that sum to flattr, and it will divide it equally to all the places you clicked on.
